Remedial Massage therapy, is a massage that can be from medium to deep tissue, depending on the muscle tension area. Your comfort is priority so we always check pain levels during the massage. Focusing on soft tissue dysfunction that can restrict movement and cause tension and pain.
RMT draws on a variety of techniques and fields of practice including, MST,Osteopathy, Physiotherapy and Movement therapy medicine.
Depending on your presenting condition the following are Remedial Massage techniques:
-Neuromuscular technique (NMT)-More commonly known as Myofascial Trigger points. This is where controlled direct pressure is applied and held to restore nutrient rich blood flow and lower muscle tension on an area of hypertonic muscle which can give possible referral to another area on the body.
-Myofascial Release (MFR)- where sustained pressure on restricted myofascial regions are released as the client also slowly moves through a stretch on the area.
-Muscle Energy Techniques (MET) - to help relax and stretch contracted and restricted muscles/fascia by having the client actively use their muscles in a controlled counterforce direction against the therapist.
-Positional Release Techniques (PRT) - where there is muscle pain or spasm present, this is a more gentle technique to increase muscle tone and circulation, where the therapist passively helps place the muscle into a shortened position for up to 90 seconds.
The Jaw (Temporomandibular Joint - TMJ), is one of the most complex body joints. Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJD) can be the cause for headaches/local neck/shoulder tension and pain. TMJD can be created from stress jaw clenching/teeth grinding (Bruxism) /shallow breathing and poor posture.
In 2 or 3 sessions, we focus on addressing stress, better breathing/posture habits, and releasing the relevant muscles, outside and inside the Jaw, temple, neck and upper back. Intra-oral treatments are done with disposable Nitrile examination gloves.
Our fantastic Aussie outdoor lifestyles, lends us to be an active sporting nation. Sports massage is tailored to suit, depending if its a regular training treatment, pre-event or post-event treatment. Prevention is better than cure. We aim to decrease potential Injuries, by monitoring your body along the way, temporarily changing/decreasing the load when needed, and by altering the condition of soft tissue adhesions which can develop and lead to muscle tears and tendonitis.
Some benefits of Sports massage:
- reduced risk of injuries
- greater range of motion/flexibility
- improved circulation
- reduce pain
- formation of healthy scar tissue
- faster recovery
- deactivation of trigger points (not less than 4 days prior to an event)
- general relaxation/lower anxiety
- increased mental clarity/motivation/positive outlook
The body has an annate ability to heal itself and Swedish therapeutic massage can help this process. The evolution of the benefits of massage dates back thousands of years from the Ancient times with the Chinese, Greeks & Romans. During the Modern Era, development began at the Lund University in Sweden in the early 1800's for advancing fencing and gymnastics. More recently, 1980's, research has developed the benefits of the mechanical and reflex actions of soft tissue manipulation as listed below.
Benefits of Swedish therapeutic massage:
-increases relaxation which helps to calm the body and the mind, allowing the bodies natural systems to function more efficiently.
-lowers stress and anxiety which can create tension headaches, fatigue, muscle tightness, depression.
-can improve sleep and help with fatigue.
-increases circulation which helps the immunity system.
Myofascial Cupping is an old technique used to help promote a self inflammatory healing process, in tight muscles and fascia, by promoting the movement of nutrient rich blood to the focused area. Myofacial cupping can help to reduce muscle tension, increase circulation and increase joint range of motion. At ABM, Sterilised Plastic cups are used with a suction pump, to draw the skin, fascia and muscle up into the cup. The cups can be used with a slow dynamic movement over the muscle, or left static for a deeper effect. The Client needs to be aware that the cups can possibly leave suctions marks, which normally should fade over a few days.
Hot Stone Massage (Thermotherapy) is a technique coming originally from Hawaii, where volcanic heated stones are used during the treatment, as an extension of the Massage
The Therapist is trained and qualified for this treatment, to heat the volcanic stones in water and monitor their correct temperature for the massage.
The natural healing power of heat has been used by many cultures for centuries.
Some of the benefits of Hot Stone Massage are:
- Decreases stress, encouraging relaxation, which allows your body to naturally recover and heal.
- Pain relief by reducing muscle tension and spasm, reducing stiffness and soreness.
- Helps faster healing after the acute injury phase (3 days), by Improving circulation, flushing new blood, protein and nutrient into the area.
- lymph flow function, which helps the immunity system to clear toxins and reduce wastes after colds.
- Stimulates the release of the bodies Endorphins, which inhibits pain signal communication and creates a feeling.
Cold Stone Massage (Cryotherapy) is similar but the stones are cooled in ice water, and used with the Hot Stones.
The contrast of the Cold Stones promotes a vasoconstriction of soft tissue.
Some of the benefit of Cold Stone Massage are:
- Naturally Sedates the nervous system, reducing body response to pain.
- Reduces swelling and inflammation.
In the comfort of your own home, you can receive a Remedial, Sports or Swedish therapeutic massage treatment without having to deal with the disruptive stress of getting home.

Tara – ‘I’ve been getting a monthly remedial massage from Dan for six months now. I’ve had massages from other therapists in the past, so I know what a great service and experience Dan is providing.
What sets Dan apart is his ability to listen and understand what your body needs.
His massages are amazing during the session, but I also greatly appreciate the tips and tricks he’s given to help me look after my body in between our sessions.
Highly recommend you book a session with Dan!!’
Gai – ‘I started having a massage with Dan 2 weeks ago , finally found someone that knows what he is talking about and listens
After having double hip replacement then accidentally slipped 2 discs, Daniel has relieve my sciatica pain and put me on the right track for exercising
I have tried 3 other professionals and had no improvement. I had relief after the first treatment and I am continuing my treatment to strengthen my lower back with him.
If you are looking for the right person to help with your injury or pain , this is the man to try.
You won’t be sorry ……😊’
Jacinta -‘I have had a lot of massages in my life and am also a massage therapist myself. Dan is by far one of the most knowledgeable, effective and genuine massage therapists I have ever come across.
I have no hesitations recommending Dan to anyone. He has helped me to keep moving and stretching as now I spend most of my days at a desk.
The homework stretches he provides are relevant and easy to incorporate into my daily routine and I love going to my maintenance massage every month.’
Jen – ‘My first appointment with Dan was about 3 years ago when I had a back issue. Since then I have been going to him for both injury treatment and prevention (very helpful as my work has involved a lot of physical labour).
Dan is genuine, professional, very knowledgeable and I can tell that he loves his job. I highly recommend him.’
Melanie – ‘Dan’s passion as a massage therapist is really reflected through his treatments. Excellent service and flexibility. Dan goes out of his way as a professional by providing massage to your door if you are unable to travel to his clinic at Kedron. As a full time mum this was so helpful and so greatful for home massage.’
Robert – ‘Amazing practitioner! Highly recommend to anyone wanting to see a skilled and caring therapist!’
Stefano – ‘Dan’s depth and breadth of knowledge in the remedial department is unmatched. He fixed my long term calf problem in just a few sessions. The environment at the clinic is also very pleasant and relaxing.’
Brett – ‘Had been having shoulder issues after a day of cricket and Dan managed to free it up and get it moving (almost like new) again. Highly recommended for his knowledge and enthusiasm for getting his clients moving well again.’
Kirsty – ‘Dan is a very professional and knowledgeable remedial massage therapist. I really appreciate the extra great tips and exercises he provides me to support joint and muscle movement. Would highly recommend!’
Cedar – ‘I had suffered from bursitis in my hip for a long time and spent a small fortune trying different therapies, Dan was the only person that was able to fix my bursitis and keep it under control. If you have any problems go see him!’
Lisa – ‘Dan is calming and approachable yet professional. I’m a BBW and any concerns I had about seeing a health therapist melted away within seconds of meeting Dan. During my massages he explains which muscle groups he is working on and discusses stretches to do at home to continue stretching muscles. Unlike other remedial therapists I have been to, Dan works with the middle layer of muscle groups which means I am not as achy or sore in the days following. He is happy to work in the deeper muscle layers if needed but constantly checks in to make sure pain is manageable. Dan is indeed the man!’
Jessica – ‘Amazing massage! Dan is very knowledgeable and passionate about massage. Goes above and beyond. Really listened to me and focused on the sore spots I mentioned. I felt a foot taller after I came out! I highly recommend Dan! He’s a rare find!’
David – ‘Dan is a great massage therapist, and he knows alot, and his knowledge is appreciated. He shows me what exercises and stretches to use with what I have wrong in my body’.
Susanna – ‘Great remedial therapist, I value his professional knowledge and understanding of the human body in a wholistic capacity. His remedial massage and the exercises Daniel recommended for my concern have been very helpful in the management of my discomfort. I am comfortable to recommend Daniel to anyone wanting a professional massage’.
Stephan – ‘Dan is an experienced operator, provides great service, recommended specifically if you live in the northern suburbs. I will come back!
Olivier – ‘Dan is an extremely good therapist. He treated and healed all my painful muscle knots in my back. He has the ability to find and cure those sore spots. Very good value massages. I’ll be back’
Rikki – ‘Best massage therapist i ever had!. I tore my rotator cuff (supraspinatus) and had surgery, got my arm in a sling for close to 12 weeks. I was in alot of pain but Dan really helped me to get through the stages of recovery. He explained all the different muscles and tendons that hold my shoulder together and even went through exercises with me. His knowledge of the human body is exceptional and he knows alot of different techniques that can help relieve pain.’
